What is Hump Day anyway?

Today wasn't bad at work. I was pretty active, tinting paint, doing some plan-o-gram-ing stuff. When I got home Ryan was leaving to go get his car washed and pick up some dry cleaning so I went with, and when we went home I did his second "trainer" workout!

We jogged a mile with Lucille for a warm up then did the following exercises:

Supine Pelvic Tilts
Front Plank
Side Plank
Supermans
Standing Woodchops (only half the exercise until the core is stabilized)
Rotating Trunk
Knee Bent Crunch
Glut Bridge
Single Leg Squats

and then stretching! Not too bad, but I'm going to have to start mixing in some workouts at the gym too. I need more cardio, biking or elliptical, and there are exercises I want to do for myself I need steps and cables for, and for Ryan he needs more upper body weight than I can do at home with my baby dumbbells. I'm not quite in the financial position to invest in more equipment when we already pay for the gym! Aindrea is here this weekend so maybe we can take Lu on a little hike or to the dog park, and I can still get my jogs in. I'm feeling faster, but I haven't timed myself yet, so we'll see.

Today is Anniversary Day

President's Day. Let me tell you, I find it annoying when I answer the phone and I hear "Are you open today?" What national retail store ISN'T open today? That's a better question. Plus, did you hear me just answer the phone? I'm not doing it for my health, trust me.

So work was boring today, but that's nothing new. Went grocery shopping after work and got things to make Frat Brats, Thai Chicken Broccolli stuff, and then a pasta salad with turkey and feta.

Got home and laid on the couch and watched some Olympics, almost felt like sleeping, but managed to get myself up and went for a job with Ryan and Lucille. Just went for a mile, I feel like I could step up the distance some...but I'm so hesitant with my knee problems to push it. I do really like running in the Vibrams though. They are feeling more and more natural.

Had the Thai Spicy Chicken stuff for dinner, mmmm. Now time to relax because all the loads of laundry are done and my poor aching back is ... well ... aching.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all! I hope you had a chance to feel loved today!

Woke up feeling slightly headachey/dehydrated from the bottle of champagne I drank with Jess last night...but dragged my butt out of bed to walk over to the dog park and let Lucille play herself out until exhaustion.

Fell asleep on the couch for most of the afternoon, then had dinner at Stone Brewery in Escondido with Ryan! Ate super rich food, lobster pot pie and chocolate bacon pie, but feeling good and ready to start hitting up the healthy food for grocery shopping tomorrow and the gym. Or maybe just a jog, but something, definitely.

I'm giving up beer for Lent, so tonight was pretty much my last one until after Easter. sigh. I do love a good beer.

Spreading Vibrams

Today I went with Ryan to buy his own pair of Vibram Five Fingers!! Man, he had a hard time even finding a pair, they're sold out everywhere. Yesterday he went to Birkenstock in Encinitas, and they had some he could try on so he could at least find out his size, but they weren't the right style. REI is sold out, and Adventure 16 in O'side, but the one in Solana Beach had one pair his size and the right style (KSO), but they were on hold for someone else! The guy hasn't come in though to get them, so when he called back today the guy working said he could just come and buy them.

We were going to take Lucille to the Del Mar dog beach, but man was it packed! I guess that's what happens with a 70 degree sunny Saturday afternoon, so instead of circling for parking and trying to deal with her fearfulness with that many people/dogs we gave up and went back towards home.

We went straight to the canyon behind the house to hike/walk down with Lu, so Ryan took off the flipflops and had his first Vibram experience on the trail! He liked them, yay! It was hard where it was really rocky (since it's not a real groomed trail, just a river wash), but he said there were only about 5 steps that hurt his feet.

So there we go. Spreading the Vibram love. Get yours now!

Winter Olympics: START

I feel sad that the luger from Georgia died. Luge scares me. 90 mph? I won't even drive in my car that fast! How sad to be so young and from a small country representing at the Olympics and have such a horrible accident the day the Olympics start.

The video isn't that bad, until you realize the poor guy's body is thrown into a STEEL POLE! Nuts.

I didn't work out today. My quads and glutes are pretty sore, I actually did work today at work so I was moving around a lot, and my knee still hurts from yesterday's run. But, NO SORENESS from running in the Vibrams, so that's muy bueno!!! It means if my knee is good tomorrow I'm running in them again! No need to wait a week in between jogs.

Food wise, not bad. Cereal, oranges, some saltines, a hot pocket, leftover shrimp and vegetables...but Ryan and I did have an early Valentine's celebration with some champagne and cupcakes. I still feel good though. I didn't gorge, so I should be fine. And I've been drinking lots o water lately.

Tomorrow, workout=on! Even if I can get on an every other day while I'm building back up the strength, I'll be happy with that.

Out. Time for BEDDDDD!

Vibram Five Fingers

Today I worked out. Woot.

First I jogged in the Vibram Five Fingers. This is only my second time running in them, so I didn't go very far. I'm sticking with the one mile distance in these puppies for awhile. My legs feel better...so far. We'll see if I'm immobile tomorrow like I was last week when I ran in them!

Then I basically did the same exercises that I did on Tuesday. This time however, Ryan did the whole workout with me, and I threw some lunges in for him, but my knee was KILLING me after the run. The left knee, of course, my surgeried knee. It hurts on the lateral side...so I think its a hamstring thing...we'll see if it feels better after I rest.

I know that I should be doing more knee rehab/strengthening exercises, so tomorrow my entire workout is going to be devoted to the knee. Oh the knee. You are the bane of my existence. The right one too!

I've been reading a lot of articles on barefoot running/the five finger shoes. I'll post some of the reviews I've read and my own review soon.

Apparently they are super popular, Ryan went to REI today to try some on and all they had was the water version, they were sold out of the other styles, and they're back-ordered from Vibram, so I feel lucky that I got mine when I did.

Food today, not bad. Cocoa Pebbles for breakfast, oranges and a Luna bar for a snack, ham and hummus sandwich for lunch, and shrimp with veggies and rice for dinner....plus a little bit of ice cream to celebrate Lucille's first birthday for dinner!

Time for the premiere of SURVIVOR!!! Bestest show ever!

Spencer Pratt Tweeted...

that you should take your body weight and divide it in half, then drink that number in Liters of Water every day to stay hydrated! That's nuts. Absolutely nuts!

But yes, please drink lots of water, but maybe aim for 10oz an hour if you're feeling ambitious. Or stick with the traditional 8 cups a day (that's if you're not exercising, just living normally!).

Another Wednesday at Work

Well, the exercise today was minimal. Very minimal. I was going to go to the gym after work, brought my clothes and everything, and then at the last minute decided that I would run outside at home (I should know better than this because I rarely feel like changing and running after a drive home).

Once I got home I ate leftover 7 layer dip from the Super Bowl, curled up in bed for awhile, then made a puppy birthday cake for Lucille because her first puppy birthday is tomorrow! It's basically like regular cake but with no sugar.

Tomorrow I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. Because I already ate some ice cream today. It's so bad having these things in the house! But, since I made the cake today, I can stop at the gym on the way home tomorrow and still have time for a puppa birthday party :)

Dinner tonight: leftover asian chicken with nuts and brown rice from last night. Mmmmm.

I'm waiting for more rain...only a few hours until downpour!

Today I didn't have to work. (Because it was time for the bi-annual dentist visit...but no need to go into detail there, my teeth are healthy if you're interested!) So I had plenty of time to procrastinate and then still work out.

My low back has been killllling me lately. Ever since I was at the work awards ceremony/dinner in Orlando and I had to sit backwards to the stage and I was twisted around, so after I jogged with the puppy, I decided to finally start doing some exercises for the 'ol back. Ugh.

I love working out but I hate when I have to do specific things. I know that I should do them, but they are by far the least fun things to do. I want RESULTS! Now, I can logically tell myself that strengthening my core will help my back, that stretching my hamstrings will stretch my back...but it is so much more satisfying to lift something heavy, pull something heavy, or run really fast (by my standards fast isn't that fast, btw). But I did them anyway.

Here was the workout for today:

Jog 1 mile
Cat/Camel
Supine Pelvic Tilts
Contralateral limb raises
Hip Adductor raises
Hip Abductor raises
Side Planks
Push Ups
Reverse Bent Knee Crunches
Regular Crunches
Downward Dog
Hamstring stretches

I'm splurging with the day off and the rain and making macaroni and cheese for lunch. But for dinner I'm making shrimp with Thai ginger carrots and green beans (the label from Trader Joe's refers to them as hericot verts, fancy!) and brown rice. If we forget that I ate Cocoa Pebbles for breakfast, then today has been a healthy day!
